Agencies set to play a role in solar game |
Energy policymakers are expected to begin taking applications next month from state agencies that want to invest in solar farms and sell power to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand.
State agencies eligible to join the project include state enterprises and agricultural cooperatives, said Energy Minister Narongchai Akrasanee. Private investors may join as contractors.
The government will take applications for solar farm capacity totalling 800 megawatts.
The details of the project will be finalised this month, Mr Narongchai said.
The Energy Policy and Planning Office forecasts total investment in this round of solar farm development at 50 billion baht (excluding land).
After the process opens in August, policymakers are expected to spend a few months screening applicants before granting licences by October.
Payment for the power will be based on the feed-in tariff rate or 5.66 baht per kilowatt-hour, with operations to begin by June 2017.
